So I’m up in the middle of nowhere at Jay Peak Resort… What can I do for a few hours?
Planning to spend a day/night/long weekend? We have put together a list of some of the best things to do in the area! The Northeast Kingdom is one of the most beautiful places in New England, if not the country! There is plenty to do around the area for those who want some outdoor adventure, as well as those who want to enjoy the scenery or do some shopping.
AT THE RESORT!
Pump House: Jay
Peak’s very own indoor waterpark! Throw
on your suits and let the games begin!
The waterpark has fun for all ages! There is a sweet kiddie area with
some small slides and splash areas, as well as a water basketball court and
climbing wall over the water! There is a
sweet lazy river/wave pool combo that goes around the perimeter of the pump
house and its great to jump in a tube and relax. There are three water slides that travel in
and out of the pump house that are fun to race down and the most famous slide
there is “La Chute”, which drops you almost straight down and almost sends you
for a loop-da-loop! Nate’s favorite part
of the Pump House was the “Flow Rider” which you can either surf or boogey
board on! Check him out below! Kacey’s
favorite slide was the mudslide she found at the bar :)

Ice Haus: Ice Skating anyone?! Jay Peak has their own NHL-sized ice rink
that offers open skates every day!
Rentals are available, so no need to pack your own skates.
Golf: Care to take on the most beautiful (and
challenging) golf course the bride and groom have ever played at?! Rock on!
Jay Peak offers an 18-hole course that is nestled at the bottom of the
mountain. Take on the terrain with your 9-iron and make sure to bring extra
balls! If you don’t want to play the
holes, head over to the pro-shop and hit the driving range! Jay Peak gives out a coupon book when you
check in and last time it had a FREE bucket of balls for the driving range!
Hike: Lace up your hiking boots and hit one of many
trails to the top of Jay Peak where you can see some of the most picturesque
views in New England! Jay, Vermont’s website offered this as hiking
information: http://www.jayvt.com/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={0354C9D6-5FDD-4FAF-8E3F-9A4AE8E18F1D}
but Kacey and Nate asked different employees at the resort about hiking and got
some tips from them. Be sure to ask
around, and next time they head up to the mountain, they will get some more
information about hiking.
See the Peak: Hop
on the 60-person tram at Jay Peak and head to the top of the mountain for
amazing views and plenty of photo ops! The tram leaves from the base of the
resort and is up to the summit in under 7 minutes!
OFF THE RESORT!
I want to do something outdoorsy...
Hike: Lace up
those hiking boots and bring along a picnic lunch when you mosey up/down/around
the mountains in the Northeast Kingdom.
Check out http://www.vtliving.com/hiking/nek.shtml#.UHw5ja7lmus for
some trails, or use the internet to find hiking trails that suit your level of
expertise
Swim/Kayak/Fish:
There are two gorgeous lakes within an hour of Jay Peak! Lake Memphremagog and Lake Willoughby are
both gorgeous areas with lots to do! The
Missisquoi and Trout Rivers have many bridges and highway turn-outs for those
interesting in reeling in some fish! The
“swimmin’ hole” of choice in the area is “Four Corners” located in North Troy
across from the “Four Corners” convenience store!
Bike: Bring up
your cycles or rent one from www.firsttrax.net! There is plenty of country road to be
traveled, and lots of bike paths along the lakes! While the resort area is
quite hilly (duh, it’s a ski mountain), there are places not far from Jay that
offer more flat terrain and some bike paths.
The Jay Peak Area Chamber of Commerce recommends the Rail Trail—35 miles
of off road travel that “can’t be beat!” Check out: http://www.experiencethenortheastkingdom.com/whattodo.html for
some great recommendations of where to do your desired activity!
I want to do something touristy...
I want to go shopping...
Jay
Country Store: Pop in here for some good
ole country treats! The store is located
in downtown Jay and here you can find food, drinks, and souvenirs gallore! If you are looking for treats to take home, we
recommend stopping here—the treats at the resort are very much on the pricey
side!
Burlington: Located about 1.5 hours from Jay, Burlington
is one adorable city with a picturesque waterfront and tons of fun and unique
shops! Much like Portsmouth, NH or
Newburyport, MA, Burlington is a fun place to spend an afternoon or evening
exploring what the city has to offer.
I want to do something normal...
Bowling: Care for a little friendly competition?! Hit up the local bowling alley (http://www.waterfrontlanes.com/Pages/default.aspx) where there is food and drink and plenty of fun to be had! Bowling is a favorite past time for the bride and groom and they don’t discriminate—they love candlepin, duck pin, and big ball! See—they love bowling!Paint Ball: Feel like being active or shooting down an enemy? Check out Advance Paintball http://www.advancepaintball.com/ for some paint ball fun. Advance Paintball is located only 20 minutes away from the resort—just be sure you don’t get hit in the face—we are offering a fun-filled photo-booth at the reception and we want you to look your absolute best!
Movies: Rainy day? Want to relax? Waterfront Cinemas in nearby Newport, VT offers all the amenities that your local Regal or AMC theater does! Head on over to 137 Waterfront Plaza in Newport for a flick and some popcorn!
If nothing in the aforementioned list of things to do tickles your fancy, work your Google magic and try to find something that does! If you find something off-the-chart-OMG, please let us know, and we will throw it on the list of things to do!
This is truly a great read for me. I have bookmarked it and I am looking forward to reading new articles. Keep up the good work!.
